This is not a coincidence. 2026 marks 100 years since the death of Antoni Gaudí, the visionary Catalan architect behind the basilica. On 10 June 2026 — one week from today — the actual Sagrada Família will officially inaugurate the Christ tower, marking another major milestone in the building's 144-year construction history. LEGO designer Rok Žgalin Kobe said the team felt an 'immense responsibility' to do justice to Gaudí's vision.
What's Actually in the Build
The construction sequence mirrors the real basilica's century-long evolution. You start with the Apse and Crypt (the foundation), build the Nativity façade (the only part Gaudí completed in his lifetime), then the dramatic Passion façade, rise into the grand naves and Western Sacristy, complete the six main towers, and finish with the Eastern Sacristy and Glory façade. There is also a forest-like interior with brick-built columns that branch outward, plus stained-glass effects on the windows using transparent elements.
The Trans-Clear Crystal Element Is the Real Story for Collectors
Buried in the details is something AFOLs are losing their minds over. The iconic LEGO crystal element (originally from Rock Raiders, then Power Miners, then various themes) appears in fully trans-clear form for the first time ever at the tips of the towers.
